According to promise, after Peter had been (as we supposed) at school several months, D took a trip to Adelaide for the purpose of paying him a visit. Immediately on arriving in Adelaide, D called on Mr. Ross, who, to his surprise and mortification, told him that Peter had some time preA'iously made his escape, and that although he had used every means available to recover him or to ascertain what had become of him, he had failed to do so. After seeking information from every source he could think of without success, D returned quite dejected.
