  • Retrograde Horizon: The Adventures of Sonny Knight, Book Two

    Charon Dunn

    eBook
It’s still 3748, in the post-post-dystopian world of One Sunny Night, where bioengineering eases the harsher aspects of life, but travel is difficult. Sonny Knight has survived his perilous journey home to Royal Beach, vacation resort and home of the world’s twistiest water slide. However, the clones (who are holding his family and two best friends hostage) know where he lives, and soon Sonny is battling school explosions, malfunctioning robots, bullies, homework-crazed principals, bad neighborhoods, lizard fights, exploding roller coasters … that’s enough spoilers for the first chapter. In fact, it looks like the only way Sonny will ever get those menacing terrorist clones to leave him alone will be to confront them, on the mist-shrouded volcanic island where they are keeping their prisoners. This is volume 2 of the “Adventures of Sonny Knight” trilogy.“…plenty of action and danger to keep readers turning the pages.” – Book Review Directory
  • One Sunny Night

    Charon Dunn

    eBook (Leaping Lagomorph, )
It’s 3748. Most of the disasters have already happened, long ago. The climate has changed; the meteors have impacted; the plagues and scarcity have been vanquished. It would be almost utopian except for a handful of people still holding grudges about a war that ended years ago … and one particularly unlucky trouble magnet of a teenager who goes by the name of Sonny Knight.Sonny starts out with some good luck, winning a trip for his family and friends to see the clashball playoffs in Vanram. When terrorists attack the stadium and take all of the spectators hostage, Sonny escapes with a pack of unlikely acquaintances, aboard an old-fashioned sailing ship made of the only kind of bioengineered wood that can survive the deadly stretches of caustic, anoxic ocean. Many obstacles lie in Sonny’s homeward path, including volcanoes, tsunamis, arrogant clones, pliosaurs, cattle stampedes, train wrecks, knee surgery, and his first date. This is volume 1 of the “Adventures of Sonny Knight” trilogy.“One Sunny Night is a well-written tale of adventure, exploration, and a growing understanding of how the world works. The world-building is very creative, and adults readers will enjoy the politics that Sonny finds himself in, where everyone has an opinion of what he should do…and doesn’t always consult him in the process.” -- Book Review Directory

3748 crashes to a halt as Sonny Knight visits Times Square to ring in the New Year. He’s a little sad because his girlfriend – one of the terrorist clones holding his family prisoner (but she’s one of the nicer ones) – has dumped him. Or maybe she’s being held prisoner by a different band of terrorists, and would appreciate being rescued?Sonny’s going to have to pull himself together if he’s going to help her. He needs to deal with his grief issues, residual anxiety from everything that happened to him in the last two books, and a blossoming substance problem. Then there’s his fresh anxiety from all the new and exciting dangers that befall him in this one. Which include more pliosaurs, explosions, avalanches, crowds, true love, assault, battery … the usual. This is the conclusion of the Adventures of Sonny Knight trilogy.

A long time from now, there was a war.It wasn’t any sort of normal war. One side was full of brave, strong, dedicated soldiers. So dedicated that their great-grandfathers modified their DNA to make sure they’d be the best warriors ever. The other side sold them those DNA modifications. They’re not about to come outside and exchange blows with a bunch of hyper-muscled giants. Not when they can kick back in air-conditioned cities sending out remote-controlled drones.Turo is one of those giants, although to be honest, he’s not that big. He’s heard rumors that the war is nearly at an end; if they are true, he won’t have to pretend that he isn’t overwhelmed by anxiety any more. Plus there’s a chance he might get a chance to talk to this cute girl he knows. She lives inside the city he’s busy sieging.Maybe someday he’ll get to hang out with her. Assuming he survives the drones.“Readers who enjoy science fiction that makes them think, with well-paced action and adventure and likable characters will be drawn to this novel.” – Book Review Directory

    Charon Dunn

Paperback (Independently published, April 29, 2017)
A fast-paced epic science fiction adventure set in 3748 on an earth with a very different climate, not to mention configuration, chemistry and composition. For Young Adults and Old Children. TRIGGER WARNING: contains potentially upsetting material about explosions, terrorists attacking schools, malfunctioning robots, school bullies, mean principals that assign a bunch of extra homework, paparazzi, poverty, affluenza, bad neighborhoods, public transit, precipitous drops in socioeconomic status, police drones, police, clandestine lizard fights, exploding roller coasters, unicorn attack, industrial steam calender malfunction, pissed-off chef with a deep fryer … I’d better stop, I’m starting to get into spoilers and I’m barely into the second chapter. In volume one, Sonny made his way home. Now he’s in volume two, and those pesky clones are still trying to kill him – or worse. Meanwhile, his family is still trapped in a comfortable suburban development on the clones’ super secret mist-shrounded volcanic island somewhere in the South Pacific. It’s starting to look like he’s going to have to go get them, if he can get past the assassination attempts, and avoid getting distracted by true love.
