Philibert had been afraid to venture into the ant-hill in company with Sydney Pierce; and now to go into a dark place where he would probably lose his way, and that with a pismire who had thoughts of biting off his head, was so exceedingly unpleasant, that the poor little fellow could not make up his mind to do it. Philibert's end of the burden was nearer the hole than that held by his new companion, but, by a sudden movement, he managed to change its position. "What are you about, you stupid?" cried the pismire.
