  • Slavery Time When I Was Chillun Down on Marster's Plantation: Interviews With Georgia Slaves by Charles Waller

    Charles Waller

Hardcover (Beehive Pr, March 15, 1838)
Recollections of slavery by those who lived it, recorded in interviews by the Federal Writers' Project. Eighty years ago the last surviving Georgia slaves, living witnesses to plantation life, were growing old. This was the last opportunity to learn the details and emotions of slavery from people who actually lived it. Interviewers from the Federal Writers' Project were dispatched to record these unique experiences. This collection of recollections portrays slavery not as an inflexible system of law and economics, but as a human situation where masters and slaves had to get along together because they were ultimately dependent on each other. The book is illustrated with late-nineteenth-century photographs which evoke Southern plantation life. Published by Beehive Press in 1973 and reprinted in 2002. By ordering this book directly from Beehive Press, it will be fully shrink wrapped and boxed in its original packaging.
