  • The Calico Cat

    Charles Miner Thompson

    MP3 CD (IDB Productions, March 15, 2016)
The Calico Cat - An Awkward, Fun Story about the Irony of Fate If you're a fan of irony, contrasting characters and unexpected developments, you will likely enjoy The Calico Cat. Charles Miner Thompson was able to create a fascinating, believable tale about just how much one man's life can change after a seemingly unimportant bane he had about calico cats snowballed into a series of uncontrollable events that have led to quite a vivid and exaggerated outcome. The story begins with Mr. Peaslee, a businessman who had been invited to sit on the grand jury went to his neighbor's house to boast about his "success." While no one was home, Peaslee saw a calico cat outside and tried to shoot the animal. What happened next, however, leads to a tragic development that, combined with Peaslee's inability to take responsibility for his actions, unfolded into an unlikely, humorous and quite entertaining story that you simply have to read to the end. The simple, comical plot of The Calico Cat has become one of the tales that have fascinated readers the most among Thompson's works. Quite ingenious in the way he manages to twist and pull on the balance of events without actually losing control, the Author manages to create a harmonious blend of fast-paced life changes colored by characters that practically anyone can relate to at least in some sense. Perhaps the only real drawback of this entertaining book is that it's somewhat short. Nevertheless, considered to be a true gem of literature and an easy, inspiring read, The Calico Cat will bring you into an atmosphere that will pick you up easily whenever you feel like life's difficulties might be getting the upper hand on you. Fun, clean and family-friendly, the book also features a few unexpected twists that will make you gasp. What's more, the ending is probably the best part, and you really don't want to miss even one word of it.

The Calico Cat by Charles Miner Thompson THE CALICO CAT I Mr. peaslee looked more complacent than ever. It was Saturday noon, and Solomon had just returned from his usual morning sojourn "up-street." He had taken off his coat, and was washing his face at the sink, while his wife was "dishing up" the midday meal. There was salt codfish, soaked fresh, and stewed in milk—"picked up," as the phrase goes; there were baked potatoes and a thin, pale-looking pie. Mrs. Peaslee did not believe in pampering the flesh, and she did believe in saving every possible cent. "Well," said Mr. Peaslee, as they sat down to this feast, "I guess I've got news for ye." His wife gazed at him with interest. "Are ye drawed?" she asked. We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection.
