    Christoph von Schmid

Paperback (Forgotten Books, Feb. 2, 2018)
Excerpt from The Water PitcherFashion of the last century. On Sundays his usual dress was a large, round, uno powdered wig, a neckcloth of the finest white linen, a frock of cinnamon brown, cut in the old fashion, with large buttons covered with gold lace. The same taste was visible in his house. The furniture of the chambers, the tapestry, the frames of the pictures and mirrors, tables, chairs and sideboard, were all of costly material, but entirely of the old fashion. The writing desk of walnut, with its old drawers, was the very one which had been used by his grandfather, and the cumbrous arm-chair still held the place it had held three gene rations before.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Paperback (Ulan Press, Sept. 23, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

The garden was well stocked with every thing that could please the eye; here were clusters of budding roses, and flow ers in all their varieties - long rows of pears with their silver blossoms, and blush~ ing cherries peeping from beneath their dark green leaves; The mother and daughter stood, for awhile, near a fountain in the middle of the garden, amusing themselves with the play of the water, which shot up its crystal wreaths in the bright beams of the summer sun, and de scended in a thousand diamond drops, glittering With all the colors of the rain bow. • The Basket of Flowers; Or Piety and Truth Triumphant: A Tale for the Young

    Christoph von Schmid

Hardcover (Forgotten Books, Oct. 12, 2017)
Excerpt from The Basket of Flowers; Or Piety and Truth Triumphant: A Tale for the YoungThe following beautiful and useful story was first read in French, and the idea immediately suggested itself to my mind, that with some alterations to make it convey lessons of clear and decided evangelical truth, it would be a very interesting little work for the libraries of Sunday-schools, and every variety of youth ful readers. The story is very touching, and the lessons taught are most useful and im portant. I have never read lessons of prae tical piety drawn with more simplicity than they are in this little book from the beauties of nature. Indeed in almost every chapter we find, addressed to the youthful heart, ser mons whose texts are the flowers of the garden.Where the story is merely translated, the translation is a very free one, and in many places large omissions are made, and in others 'considerable additions will be found.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
