  • Best Friends and Bullies: An Inspiring Story About a Girl's Disability

    Catherine Chatmon

Paperback (Publishers Solution, Oct. 18, 2019)
Best Friends and Bullies is a fictitious story that is based, in part, on my personal struggles. I was born with a disorder known as Neurofibromatosis (NF) 1. As an infant, I had a malformed hip socket, which required the wearing of a brace and corrective shoes. The telltale signs of the bumps, known as neurofibromas, began to manifest themselves early on as did the café-au-lait spots. I also experienced problems with my back, which was eventually determined to be a curve in several places, which caused mobility problems.Additionally, I had to deal with the problem of being teased (bullied) by children in my school. Even though this teasing hurt me, my parents had taught me a lesson that has followed me my entire life. God doesn't make mistakes. The NF journey is different for each person who is placed on the NF Road. My NF journey is my own, and so are those journeys of fellow travelers. I hope to be an encouragement to parents and to children who, by no choice of their own, have undertaken that same journey. By the grace of God, I desire to share my journey with you and to be an encouragement through the written word.
