These stories follow nine year old TOLLY, her dog, POPPY, and best friend, HANNAH, through some sad times and many fun adventures. The stories are aimed at 6-9 year old children.Although Tolly's dad died two years ago, a misunderstanding proves to her that he will always be with her and that her friendship with Hannah is very special. As the year progresses, Tolly has lots of fun and discovers things about herself and those around her which help her to develop into a strong young adult.A misunderstanding means Hannah goes off with Becky Sands; is it Tolly's fault? When all is explained, Tolly and Hannah realise that their friendship is very special. The time arrives for the girls' first lone adventure and, although it's Poppy who makes a discovery, they all get rewarded. A trip to the seaside means more than just ice-creams, when the girls are enlisted as film extras. The village summer fair keeps the girls busy and Poppy re-unites a pet with his owner. Autumn arrives and when Tolly deliberately gets wet, it helps to mend the rift with Becky. Tolly's remembers the last party with her dad: could she have a similar party this year? Will the others laugh at her? It's time for the school's residential trip and Tolly feels excited but nervous about the things she will have to do; will she be able to cope? Snow brings difficulties for the farmer but fun for the girls, although their voices get a little heated. It's Christmas; Tolly not only gets the present she wants but she knows that, although she'll never forget her dad, she is becoming strong enough to move on with her life.
