  • Memories Cached: A Novel

    Cameron Su

language (Cameron Su, Hong Kong, Oct. 6, 2018)
Memories Cached seeks to document a striking and humorous tale regarding the teenage experience through various vantage points. Based upon semi-anecdotal situations and pure imagination, Memories Cached addresses two types of bullying: the time-tested traditional variety of physical and psychological bullying and the timeless one that Millennials face, cyberbullying. The novel features dueling male and female narrators, in an unconventional protagonist versus antagonist scenario. The timeline highlights students transitioning from middle school to high school, all set in tropical Singapore. Ranked third in the world behind Latvia and New Zealand for bullying among 15-year-olds by an OECD study in 2015, the sovereign city-state could be replaced by any number of countries in the world for purposes of the plotline. According to the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region ranks 16th while South Korean students are reputed be the least bullied among the 50 nations surveyed.Cameron Su, 18, is a senior at the Hong Kong International School, where he is the section leader of the percussion section of the Wind Ensemble. He has recently been selected as a participant in the Asia Pacific Activities Conference honour band. Having secured third place in the Year 16 and under (Asia-Pacific Division) of the Hong Kong International Drummer Festival in 2017, he now serves as one of the festival's Ambassadors and Drummers-in-Residence. In July 2018, he again placed third in the Asia-Pacific Division of the Hong Kong International Drummer Festival. Su is co-captain of the high school golf team, for which he has been a member since the sixth grade.Memories Cached, an excerpt of which is featured in Issue 39 of Cha: An Asian Literary Journal, is Su's second publishing venture. It is the culmination of more than three years of intensive writing and editing. Stage 2 of the novel project entails a collaboration with the Act!on for a Cause programme of Kids4Kids Hong Kong. Together with Kids4Kids Founder Michele Lai as mentor, Su leads an anti-bullying campaign in Hong Kong schools, including presentations by mental health professionals.Originally published in December 2017, the new title is catalogued by the Hong Kong Public Libraries and the National Library Board of Singapore. In June 2018, the Hong Kong Society for the Blind commissioned the new title to be produced in Braille for the visually impaired.Memories Cached has been released in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Australia, New Zealand and Oceania (Indonesia, Thailand, pending), including leading bookstores in:Hong Kong* Swindon Books* Kelly & Walsh* Hong Kong Book Centre* Joint Publishing* Commercial Press* Chung Hwa BookSingapore* Books Kinokuniya* Select BooksAustralia* Dymocks* Booktopia* Readings Australia* Queensland Book Depot* eBay Australia* WoodslaneNew Zealand* Wheelers Books* eBay New Zealand* Tauhoko/Trade MeBrunei* Booker International--Website: memoriescached.com/--Instagram: memoriescached--Twitter: @memoriescached--Goodreads: Memories Cached, Cameron Su
