  • "Stagecoach" Mary Fields: Montana's Legendary Pioneer

    Julie McDonald

eBook (Julie McDonald, Feb. 29, 2016)
This is a very short story, reading time under 15 minutes, but one of my favorites! It is the wonderful story of "Stagecoach" Mary Fields, 1832-1914. Little is known of her during her 30 plus years as a slave in Tennessee, or her life shortly thereafter. Her arrival and subsequent life in Cascade, Montana would make her a legend. Enjoy this great, inspiring and very humorous story of one amazing woman!

    Julie McDonald

eBook (Julie McDonald, Sept. 14, 2017)

It is the true story of a young native man who was captured as a slave, taken to Spain and England, then returned to his homeland again just in time for the arrival of the Pilgrims. While people of all ages will enjoy this story, it was written with grade school children in mind.
  • The True Story of Levi Coffin: President of the Underground Railroad

    Julie McDonald

eBook (Julie McDonald, Aug. 30, 2016)
This is a short (it takes about 20-30 minutes to read) story of an incredible man! Levi Coffin took his belief in the Bible seriously and defied powerful, ruthless and dangerous men to protect, harbor and rescue fugitive slaves. Over the course of his life he and his wife, Katie sheltered and cared for 3,000 slaves in their home before they moved them along to freedom on the Underground Railroad. Levi was so involved and committed to this cause he was known as the President of the Underground Railroad, and his home was referred to as Grand Central Station.

This quick, one hour read, has over a dozen fun stories about the colorful characters who have spent as little as a few weeks or as long as 70 years at Grand Canyon. Some are historic, dating back to the 1800's and some are more recent. The stories are both educational and entertaining! An excellent read for children and teens as well.
  • Climax Jim: Arizona’s Outrageous Outlaw

    Julie McDonald

eBook (Julie McDonald, Nov. 3, 2016)
This short story, about a 10 minute read, is sure to put a smile on your face! In the late 1800's Climax Jim entertained the residents of the Arizona Territory and beyond with his illegal escapades. He alternated between stealing cattle, stealing horses, and getting caught. His numerous and remarkable jail breaks were equally entertaining. He once bragged that he had "busted out of every jail in the Arizona Territory except the dreaded "Hell Hole," the Yuma Territorial Prison.
