  • The Cult of New Canaan: An Amari Johnston Novel, Volume 2

    R.A. Williams

Paperback (Independently published, Oct. 3, 2018)
A UFO cult tries to steal the Shroud of Turin in a preposterous scheme to gain eternal life. Amari Johnston is a feisty private investigator fresh out of college. In 1988, she made the national news after debunking the carbon dating performed on the Shroud of Turin. Her boyfriend, Dr. Kevin Brenner, is a brilliant young physicist with his own theories as to why the carbon dating is wrong. One year later, they find themselves in another dangerous situation, one that could land them in the headlines again—and the obituary section as well. A devout Christian named Ernesto Galliano shares Amari and Kevin’s passion for proving the Shroud is the authentic burial cloth of Christ. As sole heir to his father’s vast fortune, Ernesto is determined to use his inheritance for good. He hires Amari and Kevin to join his own personal A-Team, an organization he formed to right the world’s wrongs, one mission at a time. At first reluctant to join this team, Amari’s father, veteran homicide detective, Pete Johnston, finally agrees to take the job so he can protect his daughter from harm. Amari’s bizarre first mission comes after a UFO cult attempts to steal not only the Shroud of Turin but also the Sudarium of Oviedo. However, in a surprising twist of fate, she and Kevin find themselves captured by the very cult they pursue. Desperate to save Kevin and his daughter, Pete unravels clues previously discovered by Amari in a frantic attempt to rescue them before they fall victim to the cult leader’s suicidal vision. Although this novel is Volume 2 in the Amari Johnston series, it can easily be read as a standalone title.

When Ryan Williams began attending VidCon, Comic-Con, South by Southwest (SXSW), TechCrunch Disrupt and other tech and fan-geek conferences, he noticed two remarkable things: these events were celebrating geeks, technology, and modern social media; and no one was telling the stories of the awesome people embracing this new form of influence and the wildly successful businesses they were creating. Ryan Williams is a former stand-up comedian turned tech entrepreneur. He was a founding team member at DigiSynd, a pioneering social media marketing group, acquired by Disney in 2008. After leaving Disney to join the Machinima.com, a YouTube video network for the gaming generation, he drove network growth to over 4 Billion video views a month, focused on influencer-driven YouTube video creation. As a start-up marketing executive, he has lead go-to-market product launches for global companies such as Disney, Microsoft, Activision, and Warner Bros. In 2014, Ryan went on to launch a popular podcast dedicated to interviewing the pioneers of what he calls the Influencer Economy. After speaking to more than a hundred artists, experts, and entrepreneurs--from world-famous YouTubers to New York Times best-selling authors to the most creative start-up founders and investors on the planet--he reverse engineered their careers, to understand the stories behind their success, and now presents everything he learned in The Influencer Economy. The three primary steps to success in the Influencer Economy -- launch, share and thrive -- can be applied to both business and life. Ryan tells the fascinating stories of more than a dozen people who turned their visions, ideas, and hobbies into influential and profitable digital media empires. He provides the "Influencer School Lessons" derived from each of these individual's journeys. • The Pony Fish's Glow: And Other Clues To Plan And Purpose In Nature

    George C. Williams

eBook (Basic Books, Nov. 25, 2014)
We may regard ourselves as the most advanced species on the planet, but have we really reached our optimum design? Isn't there always room for improvements? Before you answer, let noted evolutionary biologist George C. Williams remind you of both the exquisite adaptations and absurd maladaptations nature has bestowed upon us, the self-proclaimed ”pinnacle of evolution.”Picking up where Darwin left off, Williams combines philosophical perspective and scientific method to provide a foundation for the answers to some fascinating questions. He explains why our bodies have to deteriorate so disastrously with old age. He gives us logical reasons to explain why we crave foods like sugar and fat that have been proven time and again to be detrimental to our health. And Williams single-handedly deflates our Homo sapiens sapiens ego with such insights as: Our eyesight—it may seem superior, but not when compared to that of the invertebrate squid, whose eye has developed over time to prove more efficient than ours. And wouldn't it make more sense to have a third eye, located on the back of the head? We could have stereoscopic vision in front and rear-vision warning us of danger sneaking up behind. Rear-view mirrors would become a thing of the past. And why stop at three eyes? This fascinating new book is markedly different from all previous work on evolutionary biology. Using the pony fish and its luminescent abdomen as the perfect evolutionary mystery, Williams explores the intricacies of nature's designs. Rather than telling us how or why the pony fish got its light, Williams explains the functional reasons why the pony fish keeps its light. He also explains why our species keeps arbitrary or malfunctioned features like the reproductive and excretory systems' sharing of parts.George C. Williams, one of today's most qualified evolutionary biologists, has written an important, entertaining, and thought-provoking addition to a science that has captivated the world for almost 150 years.

  • With The Border Ruffians

    R H Williams

eBook (Endeavour Compass, April 18, 2017)
Those who have not personally watched the growth of that marvellous country cannot realise the changes those fifty years have wrought, so long in a man’s life, so short a span in a nation’s history. In the summer of 1831, Robert Hamilton Williams was born to the family of a country clergyman – yet he was not destined to continue the religious tradition of his father and the quiet life in England never called him. Starting as a Liverpool seaman aged seventeen, enduring brutal captains, a dislocated shoulder and a near fatal bout of scurvy, he remained undaunted in his pursuit of adventure on the high seas. After a period of hospitalisation in Cork and a short farming apprenticeship, he departed for Adelaide and then Virginia, where his journey truly began. On arrival in Western Virginia, he encountered farmers living in near total isolation, leading a pastoral life, far from the cities and towns he grew up with. Clothes were spun and food was hunted, but this simple life didn’t hold Williams for long as he was always chasing his next voyage. He then found himself in the wildest of the Wild West, fighting for his life in Kansas in the prelude to the Great War of Secession where murder and lawlessness prevailed. He was forced to commit acts which would change his outlook forever. Witnessing the gold rush, ranch life in Texas, fighting with the Commanchés, the fierce Indian tribes practising scalping warfare in the Indian country, his story ends in 1865 with the close of the American Civil War. With the Border Ruffians is a remarkable true tale of courage and discovery from a time of frontier gun-slinging, now lost to the past. It is the life of a youth thirsting for adventure who became a man during one of the most exciting and transformative times in American history.Robert Hamilton Williams was a lieutenant in the Kansas Rangers and went on to become a captain in the Texan Rangers.

  • Luke 'n' Conor's Hundred-to-One Club

    J C Williams

Paperback (Independently published, June 30, 2019)
Parents - Do you want your children to realise there is also a world away from their console? If you have to surgically remove the controller from their grasp, you'll love this book.Kids - Don't worry, you'll also love this book. It's absolutely hilarious. For some kids, playing their game console was a matter of life and death... But for ten-year-olds Luke and Conor, it was more important even than that!In fact, the topic of conversation on every boy’s — and even a fair few girl’s — lips was the latest shoot-em-up survival game called Hundred-to-One.The prospect of competing in the Hundred-to-One world championship tournament, with untold riches in prize money and international bragging rights, was simply irresistible. The only thing standing in Luke and Conor’s path to victory was the Isle of Man regional heat they’d have to win. Oh, and the fact that every kid in every school everywhere had exactly the same dream they did. So, yeah, there was that as well. But Luke and Conor wouldn’t let anything stand in their way! Well, okay, apart from homework, maybe, and the school bully, and a younger boy with a watery eye and a gammy leg... and along, of course, with their mums’ rubbish insistence that they set the game controller down and (*gasp!*) venture outside for fresh air on occasion. The lads were determined, though. And their obsession for gaming glory in a virtual world, as it happened, could also open up the possibility of new friendships and new adventure in the real world. A hilarious, feel-good book that's genuinely one for the whole family.
