  • Moving from Grief in Cornwall: to Tango and Theatre Work in Ecuador

    Barbara M Webb

    eBook
How do you cope with a terminal illness diagnosis for your husband? My way was to take the drastic step of relocating from Cornwall to Quito, Ecuador, a few years after the death of my husband, Richard. There I learnt Spanish, danced tango and worked as a volunteer in the Teatro Bolivar in Quito, all of which helped me cope with the loss. The story of "Moving from Grief in Cornwall" begins in 2001 when my husband was diagnosed with cancer and told he had nine months to live. We had been restoring an old farmhouse in Porthcurno where we had retired to but all that was to change. The book traces how as his carer I became his chauffeur, juice extractor extraordinaire, financial expert and nurse all rolled into one. Travel plans were cancelled and we tried to live in the NOW. After all there was no future and to remind ourselves of past joys was too painful. I faced his death, funeral and post-death experiences, and only then looked further afield.Grief affects us all; the only thing that’s different is how we deal with it to empower ourselves. I hope the book will give readers hope after the death of a loved one.. Barbara's website is:www.barbaramwebb.com
