  • The Little Prince

    Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Katherine Woods

Hardcover (Ancient Wisdom Publications, Feb. 21, 2018)
The story is philosophical and includes social criticism of the adult world. It was written during a period when Saint-ExupĂ©ry fled to North America subsequent to the Fall of France during the Second World War, witnessed first hand by the author and captured in his memoir Flight to Arras. The adult fable, according to one review, is actually "...an allegory of Saint-ExupĂ©ry's own life—his search for childhood certainties and interior peace, his mysticism, his belief in human courage and brotherhood, and his deep love for his wife Consuelo but also an allusion to the tortured nature of their relationship." Though ostensibly styled as a children's book, The Little Prince makes several observations about life and human nature. For example, Saint-ExupĂ©ry tells of a fox meeting the young prince during his travels on Earth. The story's essence is contained in the fox saying that "One sees clearly only with the heart. The essential is invisible to the eye." Other key morals articulated by the fox are: "You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed," and "It is the time you have lost for your rose that makes your rose so important." The fox's messages are arguably the book's most famous quotations because they deal with human relationships.

  • The Little Prince Graphic Novel

    Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Joann Sfar

Hardcover (HMH Books for Young Readers, April 16, 2013)
Saint-ExupĂ©ry’s The Little Prince has earned millions of fans worldwide as an imaginative, dreamy study of the meaning of life. How horrible to be a grown-up—they all seem to be needy, lonely, vain, or power-hungry. All the Little Prince cares about is being useful to the flower he’s left behind on his very small planet, with only a few thorns to protect her from the world. Sfar’s comic-book illustrations of the wide-eyed boy prince and disheveled pilot he encounters in the African desert are edgier than the original watercolors...and his style and humor work modern magic. An inspiring gift to longtime fans or newcomers!

  • The Little Prince

    Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Paperback (Heritage Publishers, Nov. 24, 2007)
Through the book celebrates the innocence of children, it laments the failure of humanity at large to behave like a child. This great masterpiece has transcended its times, as there are many little princes that the war might have crucified. It's a great irony that even the prince's flight back to his planet drives the truth back home that earth is no more a place worth living. An intelligent reader capable of drawing this message from the novel cannot but finish reading the complete book before closing it down. This is where lies the beauty of this partially autobiographical presented almost in the form of a fairy tale.
