The family later moved to a farm where Bob had to stay home for a while to recuperate from tuberculosis yet continued experimenting. By 1916 with the First World War going on, he sent a summary to the Smithsonian Institution asking for money to support the development of the rocket. Funds were granted and in 1919, Bob produced a manuscript on rocket and jet propulsion that became the foundation for today's rocketry."
