  • My Life of Adventure

    Alfred Greenwood Hales

Paperback (Forgotten Books, March 14, 2018)
Excerpt from My Life of AdventureLooking back on those far-off days, I cannot honestly say I think I was a really bad boy, but the love of fun and mischief was ingrained in my being. I had to travel a good many miles to school, and generally had to find a new way home every night. Folks on my line of march were so fond of me that they used to follow me home, and the things they said to my dear old mother for bringing me into the world reflected more credit on their powers of oratory than on her maternal wisdom. She used to tell me I would bring her grey hairs with sorrow to the grave, but as she did not die until she was nearly eighty the memory of those pathetic speeches does not keep me awake at night at present.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. • Campaign Pictures of the War in South Africa

    A. G. Hales

Paperback (Forgotten Books, June 2, 2017)
Excerpt from Campaign Pictures of the War in South Africa (1899-1900): Letters From the FrontAT two O'clock on the morning of Wednesday, the 6th of the month, the reveille sounded, and the Australians commenced their preparations for the march to join Methuen's army. By 4 am. The mounted rifles led the way out of camp, and the toilsome march over rough and rocky ground com menced. The country was terribly rough as we drove the transports up and over the Orange River, and rougher still in the low kopjes on the other Side. The heat was simply blistering, but the Australians did not seem to mind it to any great extent; they were simply feverish to get on to the front, but they had to hang back and guard the transports.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. • My life of adventure

    Alfred Greenwood Hales

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
  • My Life of Adventure

    Alfred Greenwood Hales

Paperback (HardPress Publishing, Jan. 10, 2012)
Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made available for future generations to enjoy.
