  • Rebel Private, Front and Rear: Experiences and Observations From the Early Fifties and Through the Civil War

    W. A. Fletcher

Hardcover (Forgotten Books, Nov. 27, 2017)
Excerpt from Rebel Private, Front and Rear: Experiences and Observations From the Early Fifties and Through the Civil WarFather thought a densely settled negro district would be a poor place to have a family during the war, which he said was sure to come; so he sold out and moved to Texas, and settled at Wiess Bluff, J asper County, J une, 1856. At lviess Bluff, father found in old man Simon Wiess a well read and intelligent man, and one who reasoned the future as he did; but his moving ideas were somewhat different, as I have heard him remark to father that if he could sell out at not too great a loss he would move to the Republic of Mexico in order to keep his boys out of war. While at Wiess Bluff, about the only mention of war I would hear was by father and Wiess.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. • Motion Picture Magazine, Vol. 20: August, 1920-January, 1921

    Adele W. Fletcher

Paperback (Forgotten Books, Jan. 9, 2019)
Excerpt from Motion Picture Magazine, Vol. 20: August, 1920-January, 1921There is so much talk of extensive production abroad these days - of the fact that other countries will compete, to the best of their ability, with America, which has for so long excelled in motion picture produc tion, that it is interesting to learn of conditions - cinematically speaking first-hand: dear editor - I have, at last, reached this famed town (in England we are not so crude as to call it a city) and verily, I like it muchly. Of course. It isn't as beautiful as Paris, but still it has a de lightful charm all its own. For beauty and gaiety give me Paris. But then, at other times, let me have London. It is very pleasing to note that our pic ture palaces (why so called I am at a loss to state) differ from those of France, Belgium and the continent in general. As in Germany, we call it the Kinema. With a slightly different pronunciation, and isn't it true that the Japanese also spell it the selfsame way?About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
