    A a Milne

Hardcover (Egmont Books Ltd, Feb. 25, 2016)
'They're changing guard at Buckingham Palace - Christopher Robin went down with Alice.' Curl up with A. A. Milne's classic book of poetry for children, When We Were Very Young. This is the first volume of rhymes written especially for children by Milne - as popular now as when they were first written. Featuring E. H. Shepard's original illustrations, this collection is a heart-warming and funny introduction to children's poetry, offering the same sense of humour, imagination and whimsy that we've come to expect from Milne's favourite books about Winnie-the-Pooh, that Bear of Very Little Brain. Do you own all the classic Pooh titles? Winnie-the-Pooh The House at Pooh Corner; When We Were Very Young; Now We Are Six. Also look out for Return to the Hundred Acre Wood and The Best Bear in all the World (coming soon). The nation's favourite teddy bear has been delighting generations of children for 90 years. Milne's classic children's stories - featuring Piglet, Eeyore, Christopher Robin and, of course, Pooh himself - are both heart-warming and funny, teaching lessons of friendship and reflecting the power of a child's imagination like no other story before or since. Pooh ranks alongside other beloved character such as Paddington Bear, and Peter Rabbit as an essential part of our literary heritage. Whether you're 5 or 55, Pooh is the bear for all ages. A.A. Milne is quite simply one of the most famous children's authors of all time. He created Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends Piglet, Eeyore, Tigger, Kanga and Roo based on the real nursery toys played with by his son, Christopher Robin. And those characters not only became the stars of his classic children's books, Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner, and his poetry for children, they have also been adapted for

  • The Red House Mystery

    A. A. Milne

    eBook (, July 9, 2014)
The Red House Mystery is a "locked room" whodunnit by A. A. Milne, published in 1922. It was Milne's only mystery novel. He wrote this before the Pooh books and the success of his children's fiction meant he never returned to the genre. A pity. The story is set in the quaint, English countryside at the house party of Mark Ablett, where a murder quickly takes place. Ablett has been entertaining a house party consisting of a widow and her marriageable daughter, a retired major, a wilful actress, and Bill Beverley, a young man about town. Mark's long-lost brother Robert, the black sheep of the family, arrives from Australia and shortly thereafter is found dead, shot through the head.Mark Ablett has disappeared, so Tony Gillingham, a stranger who has just arrived to call on his friend Bill, decides to investigate. Gillingham plays Sherlock Holmes to his younger counterpart's Doctor Watson; they progress almost playfully through the novel while the clues mount up and the theories abound. In his introduction to the 1926 UK edition, A. A. Milne said he had "a passion" for detective stories, having "all sorts of curious preferences" about them: though in real life the best detectives and criminals are professionals, Milne demanded that the detective be an unscientific amateur, accompanied by a Watson-type, rubbing shoulders with an amateur villain against whom dossiers and fingerprints are of no avail. This was Milne's first and final venture into the detective and mystery genre, despite its immediate success and an offer of two thousand pounds for his next mystery novel.Milne lets his readers inside the head of his amateur detective, disregarding the clichéd romance or violence of other detective novels, as the mystery becomes a puzzling sort of parlor game for the novel's characters and readers alike.Alexander Woollcott called ‘The Red House Mystery’ "one of the three best mystery stories of all time."

Paperback (Independently published, May 13, 2018)
“This is an odd book” or so states the author in 1917 for his first introduction. A fairytale with seven league boots, a princess, an enchantment, and the Countess Belvane. As Milne wrote in a later introduction: “But, as you see, I am still finding it difficult to explain just what sort of book it is. Perhaps no explanation is necessary. Read in it what you like; read it to whomever you like; be of what age you like; it can only fall into one of the two classes. Either you will enjoy it, or you won’t. It is that sort of book.”
