  • Ravenous Hyenas and the Wounded Sun: Myth and Ritual in Ancient India

    S. Jamison

Hardcover (Munshiram Manoharlal Publishers, May 30, 2013)
Vedic Sanskrit literature contains a wealth of material concerning the mythology and religious practices of India between 1500 and 500 BCE. a crucial period in the formation of traditional Indian culture. Stephanie W. Jamison here addresses the conditions that have limited our understanding of Vedic myth and ritual, such as the profusion and obscurity of the texts and the tendency on the part of scholars to approach mythology and ritual independently. Tracing two key myths through a variety of texts, Jamison provides insight into the relationship between early Indic myth and ritual as well as offering a new methodology for their study. After a brief survey of Vedic literature and religion, Jamison examines the recurrences of the myths.
  • Meet The Skwerdlock!

    Pops Jamison

Paperback (ImagiLearning, Inc., March 3, 2018)
As "Pops", John shares the stories he told his daughter years ago, and now tells his grandchildren today. Stories of fun and wonder, sometimes crazy, but always with a smile."Meet the Skwerdlock!" was created to help spark a love of books, help learn a few words, and just have an excuse to sit in the recliner and enjoy time together.Pops says:I really enjoy seeing nicely done illustrations in books. However, one of the goals of this book is to show that you don’t have to be a professional artist or illustrator to create books. Children are filled with great stories, and I want to encourage them to write those stories down, and bring them to life with their own pictures. If they end up looking really, really great, that’s just fine. But if they end up looking like mine do, that’s perfectly ok too!
  • The Awfuls

    Katy Jamison

    eBook
Mr. Awful and Mrs. Awful live in a warn-out, scuffed up, tattered Giant’s boot house in the woods on Chicken Dinner Road. They decided to have some kids so they’d be able to make them do all the cooking, cleaning, and unpleasantness, while they could do whatever they wished. Thus Ezekiel, Nanette, Gideon, Mildred, Lester, Imogen, Rufus, Agnes, Horace and Wren were born. But with the last name of Awful, it should be no surprise that they were awful too! All in their own unique way of course; which made things quite exciting, odd and irritating! Ezekiel is a trickster. Nanette is always up for making a bet. Gideon is the biggest liar. Mildred wants to live in outer space, so she tries to convert household appliances into rocket ships. Lester is a horrid pest; annoying is what he does best. Imogen has a penchant for asking “why” to E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G. Rufus is the artist of the family; drawing and painting on everything he’s not supposed to. Agnes is a big tattletale. Horace eats everything that’s not edible; including parts of the house. And Wren is a stage-5 clinger extraordinaire. When you have ten awful kids in one boot house, chaos and shenanigans ensue and somehow a llama ends up on the roof!
  • Research Methods in Psychology for High School Students

    Jennie Jamison

Paperback (iUniverse, Inc., Aug. 8, 2006)
High school teachers face common challenges. How do we assist students to cognitively advance before they typically do on their own? How do we maintain a scholarly atmosphere in the classroom and still keep the material relevant to student lives? The purpose of this book is to turn students into investigators of psychology. I want to reframe student ideas that research is an abstraction, and help them come to the realization that a listing of facts is meaningless without understanding their origin. Once students understand the real meaning of psychological information, the “facts” have a clear application. This book assists students in designing a simple experiment appropriate for the International Baccalaureate psychology curriculum. Students also learn the basics of non-experimental design so they can run simple studies and interpret the meaning of information obtained by the different methods in essays. All teachers can appreciate the problem solving approach to learning about research methods. Scores on all tests formats can improve if students develop a true understanding of methodology. Students remember what they understand!

  • Woven of Many Threads

    C. V. Jamison

Paperback (Forgotten Books, May 7, 2017)
Excerpt from Woven of Many ThreadsF or months Constance was inconsolable, scarcely eating or sleeping, wandering from her sister's grave to her chamber, weeping with her head upon the pillow where she had so Often rested, or pressing her tear stained face almost frantically to the green sod that covered the last. Resting-place of the beloved dead. If it had not been for her brother, who, fearing grief would kill the child, left his studies at Oxford and devoted himself to her, she surely must have succumbed to her deep sorrow. As he tried every means to divert her, she gradually became more cheerful, but never again the light-hearted, happy child she had been before. Two years after, that idolized brother, in all the strength and glory Of youth, was brought from Oxford to his childhood's home, hopelessly insane. Over-study in preparing to graduate had affected a ner vous excitable temperament, and an already overtasked brain, so as to extinguish for ever the light Of reason. For six months he lingered in that terrible darkness, some times gentle and tractable as a child, or again raving in the strongest and wildest delirium.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
