Her new home is a sod house in an ocean of prairie grass. The one-room schoolhouse holds all eight grades. Indians and outlaws still roam the area. And as an only child, Nora faces lonely, friendless days ahead.
Nevertheless, over time the prairie changes and so does Nora. Good things happen, and she begins to have fun and enjoy life.
Then as the seasons come and go, sad events are mixed in with the happy ones. Nora has to learn to accept whatever life brings.
