Her mother had to work more hours in order to maintain their way of living. April feels neglected because of the absence of both parents. Although she knows nothing will bring her father back, she feels a companion is the solution for her loneliness. When April feels like her mother doesn’t understand her feelings, she soon realizes her mother saw the bigger picture and did understand how she felt with the loss of her father.
