Callum Tyler has just turned sixteen. But it’s not a sweet sixteen. He’s overweight - but working on losing weight - his soap opera actress Mum has forgotten his birthday, his band has ditched him on the eve of the schools’ Battle of the Bands and the school bully has him in his sights. Just when it seems nothing will go right for Callum, the school’s outsider Peter Lattimer comes to him with a proposal. Lattimer is a legend in his own mind, but he’s convinced he and Callum can overcome the odds and put together a band to win the Battle of the Bands - and meet some hot chicks on the way. At first Callum is doubtful, but Lattimer is persuasive and instils self-belief in Callum that sees them rock into the final of the Battle. Along the way, Callum raises his standing in the school community, overhauls his relationship with his ego-driven Mum and maybe, just maybe, scores himself a girlfriend.
