Hiking at the Great Dismal Swamp

language ( Oct. 24, 2017)
Explore wildlife photography as I wander down a trail at the Great Dismal Swamp. Learn about the brightly colored ailanthus webworm moth and its web-building larvae, the caterpillar. Marvel at the purple and fluorescent green eyes of the yellow deer fly. Notice the orchard orbweaver spider that sits in the center of its web, and the green meadow katydids and field grasshoppers resting on leaves, and spiders hiding on the underside of leaves, and leaf beetles devouring giant leaves. Find the crane fly hiding in the dark and the brightly colored leaf hoppers sitting out in the open. Inspect the wings of a gorgeous blue butterfly. See a scary tick waiting to catch a ride, a crab spider waiting for an insect to land too close, a brown leaf-footed bug and wheel bugs and a predatory wasp and trees and flowers and so much more.

Enjoy my wildlife photography that will make your children say “Wow!” They will ask you lots of questions as you read aloud with them on the porch or in the living room. Enjoy the questions they ask and help them find the answers. If you are a parent who wants to encourage questioning and wonder, then this is the book for you. It will make your child want to go outside and explore the incredible biodiversity that lives outside.
