The big black engines beckons them on the way home from school; especially when they see black smoke turning white from the chimney stack; this meant the train was on the move down the track.
Tommy's mom made their favorite meal knowing she could get her children to come to the table easily when they are involved in other actives.
The boys would leave home early so they could go by the station on their way to school. The headmaster stands on the school steps waiting for the last child.
A train strike had happened, and this made the station master tense, with so many misplaced engines blocking the lines and filling his yard. The sight of so many engines in one place excited the boys.
Rich arrives home to see his mother packing their kitchen dishes. Concerned, Rich asked his mother why she was packing, Your father will be here any minute. He runs to his friend Tommy house telling him we're going to my grandma's.
