Forever Kat

As a novice shape-shifter, Katherine is not supposed to use her ability unless other, more experienced shifters are nearby. So, with her mentors out of town, she is little more than an ordinary girl. While on an errand for her mother, she encounters an abused dog she believes to be a shifter in trouble. She doesn't need to change into Kat, her cat self, to help him, she reasons. But the aliens who captured the dog also capture her. She is forced to use her special collar to shift into her cat body to escape. But in trying to get away, she loses the collar. Now, as a little black cat, she must survive a dangerous world to stop an alien invasion. And she begins to worry that she will never again be an ordinary girl.

Nelli Burk is a retired biology teacher. She derives inspiration from real life and from the scientific literature, as well as from the SF&F literature and media and from her own imagination. Other creative interests include knitting, costume construction, and folk dancing.
