Arthur, Britain's fledgling king, has his hands full as heattempts to establish order in a realm filled with petty rivalries and personal grievances among the lesser kings and nobles. One king, King Ryence of Northgales, has even refused to accept Arthur as King Uther Pendragon's rightful heir and engages in open rebellion. Most os the other kings do support Arthur, though for some of them, with real reluctance; and in the case of one of them, King Nentres of Garlot, his support for Arthur is merely a pretense. And just as the new yhoung king is finally bringing order to the realm, an even greater threat to Britain suddenly emerges. This one is an external threat, not an internal one. As the story ends, the Britons are confronted with their greatest challenge, the invasion of the Saxons. Now the nation faces a struggle for its very survival.
