Burning: A Young Adult Werewolf Romance
(Northern Starlight Young Adult Press July 15, 2016)
Things seem to be on track finally for Emily and Jared. Sure, he has the very critical and dangerous part of his quest right ahead, but she knows he loves her, even if his sense of honor and fear for her safety is piling on top of the pain of his last relationship and keeping him from her. At least they’re enjoying each other’s company. But on the other hand…why did a simple comment about money make him so angry? Before she can really think about it, the two of them find themselves in a mall engulfed in flames! Of course, Jared gets all heroic again, and she finds herself alone outside of the building while Jared rushes back and forth to help people. Can she really have a relationship with a boy who gets angry at the slightest provocation? Can she really see herself with a boy who risks his life at every turn? Maybe she needs someone more…normal. Things are about to get crazy because that potential someone, Finlay, catches up with her just a few minutes later.

“Come on,” said Jared. “There’s something wrong,”
They made their way to the area and could see that people were beginning to panic and were trying to get in the lifts. They were also cramming themselves in the stairwell, to get out of the building. Smoke could be seen moving its way in their direction. Jared grabbed a pair of his new socks from one of the shopping bags. He thrust the bags into Emily’s hands.
“Take these and stay here,” he shouted.
“But …. “
“Just do it Emily. Do not move,” he roared.
He ran to the toilets that were located behind them. He rushed to the sinks and ran one of the taps. He placed the socks under the tap and squeezed out the excess water. He ran back to Emily.
“Take this and cover your nose and mouth, as we go down the stairs. If we get split up, do not under any circumstances take the lift and get out of this building as soon as possible.
“Jared, what’s going on?” she said.
“The building is on fire. We have to get out as soon as possible,” he said.
He grabbed her hand and they moved towards the crowd together. People were full of panic. They were shouting and trying to pile into the lifts. Jared could see everyone moving towards the lifts and knew instinctively that they would all be in danger. He started to move towards them.
“Where are you going?” shouted Emily.
“I have to stop those people from entering the lifts,” he replied. “Keep going Emily!”
“Jared! Jared!” she shouted.
Too late; he had been sucked into the chaos.
