It’s London 1768. Daniel Buckle is an eleven year old chimney sweep. He sells a stolen ring so that he can run away to sea to escape his cruel master, Mr Crabs. He joins the crew of HMS Valiant believing that he has left his troubles behind him - but he soon discovers that he's not the only person on board with a secret to hide.
