This book, printed in 1910, is the first book in a of a series of three adventure books intended for young readers during the period just before WWI. Dave Darrin and his best friend, Dan Dalzell, have been appointed as midshipmen and will now attend school at Annapolis, the United States Naval Academy. Here is where they will train to hopefully become Naval officers. They have a tough road ahead of them with four years of school as midshipmen, then sent to sea for two more years, after which they must pass rigorous examinations before they could be commissioned as ensigns. They both have big dreams and hope to someday become admirals. This volume gives the story of the rough, first year at Annapolis for these green, young men who really have no idea where this adventure of a lifetime will lead.
