A sixteen year old girl is finely able to date, but her boy friend is a horror. He hits and slaps her and tells her who she can talk to and where she can go. Jessica lost her parents in a car account when she was very young, so she lives with her grandmother and grandfather, whom she calls mama and papa. Jessica remembers the account and how and old Indian man saved her life. When her mama saw Jessica mopping around the house she asked her what was wrong? Jessica didn't want to say anything about her problems but her mama forced her to tell her what was wrong. Her mama was wise and told Jessica about an old Indian legend about twin brothers and how one was mean and Gray Wolf was sweet as he could be. After his death his spirit was sent back to earth to help. And the story goes on from there.
