This book contains words that children can read using phonics (decode words using sounds). Parents and teachers can use this book to assess a child's phonic knowledge and practice reading words (decoding, blending and word knowledge).
By age 6 children should:
- be able to read all 250 words using their phonic knowledge (decode all 250 of these words)
The following sounds are used in this book:
a : cat & acorn, ai : wait, ay : say, a-e : came, e : hen & she, ee : see, ea : head, e-e : scheme, ey: key, i : hit & mind, i-e : fine, ie : pie, igh : high, o : hot & cold, oe: toe, oa : boat, o-e : cone, u : cup & unit, ue : blue & cue, ew : stew, u-e : huge, oo : room & book.
Each set contains 50 words and each page contains 5 words. Links are provided on the left of the screen so that you and your children can skip between words in each set and words between sets.
