The Legend of Grace Roscoe

This is a fictionalised account of Grace Roscoe, who was born in 1715 to an unloving and cold mother. At the age of fourteen, she was wrenched from all that she knew and loved. Her mother, without warning had bundled her onto a coach for a journey to an unknown destination. She was to be used by her mother's cousins John and James Hardman, who were merchants and the owners of Allerton Hall as a means for them to be accepted by society. Neither brother was able to produce an heir to their vast fortune, gained through slavery. Grace was made an heiress to their vast merchant's fortunes - on condition she married well. When Grace reached sixteen the Hardman's arranged for her to marry an older, but well-connected suitor. They were unaware of her scandalous blossoming romance. She had fallen in love with the coachman. Grace's world fell apart when she heard she was to be married and vowed she would never enter a loveless marriage. She was prepared to give up everything, even her own life for the love the coachman - John Hazlehurst.
