Perhaps the last refuge of innocence.... The US Congress annexed Hawaii in 1898. This pleasant little volume gives a description of the Hawaiian paradise in 1893. It hints at a way of life rather foreign to the typical western traveler. This was the Hawaii before money and politics mattered so much. It almost made me wish that Captain Cook had never ‘discovered’ Hawaii.― (There’s an interesting on ‘praying someone to death’, and other superstitions.) This eBook edition of the 1893 original has been carefully edited for scanning and spelling errors, and is as true to the original as possible.
