Paperback
(Continental Press Jan. 1, 2008)
Phonics and Word Study is designed to help students develop the skills necessary for independence in reading. Level D begins with review activities for the maintenance of skills generally taught in the first three grades. The book covers consonants, consonant blends, consonant digraphs, silent consonants, and variant vowel sounds and vowel spellings. The book also deals with contractions, compound words, plurals, possessives, prefixes, suffixes, and base words. Additional skills concern changes made to base words before adding suffixes, syllabication, alphabetical order, and dictionary skills such as guide words, entry words, the pronunciation key, the schwa, primary and secondary accents, homographs, and homophones. The book also covers synonyms and antonyms.
