Meet The Reaper

My name is Ian Finn Morgenstern, Finn to my friends and many unprintable names to everyone else. For a very long time now, people have been asking me to tell my story. So, with some reluctance, here it is. This is where it all started in the spring of my 18th year.

It began when I discovered an ancient Hopewell burial mound. It turns out that the mound was haunted. Seriously. It was so bad, the owner was preparing to bulldoze it down. We offered to clear it for him. Our goal was to try to preserve any artifacts we uncovered. We had only the best of intentions paving our way.

It turned out to be a rich site. It yielded several artifacts in the first exploratory digs. The most interesting of these was an Algonquin effigy bear totem. It came complete with a terrifying shape-changing ghost.

Perhaps, things would have been different if I'd heeded the warnings of the ghost and just left everything alone, but I just couldn't. The bear totem called to me at a very primal level, and I just couldn't let it go. When I took it home, the ghost of the mound followed me haunting my dreams and making my nights terrifying and my days miserable.
