(Gardner Publishing Aug. 1, 2007)
, Unabridged edition
Juanita the Spanish Lobster is an outrageously entertaining work for narrator and symphony orchestra about a lady lobster who wants to go to the land. This symphonic tale, in the tradition of Peter and the Wolf, is the third CD in the new Stories in Music audio series for children and their parents featuring the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The CD includes additional educational tracks and a program book. The child learns what to listen for in the spirited flamenco music, how this wonderful work was created by British composer David Haslam and the late BBC personality Johnny Morris, and experiences the passionate O Juanita! bel canto aria rearranged byconductor Stephen Simon into an Elvis style doo-wop song. A karaoke track at the end of the CD provides a fun opportunity for the entire family to put on their blue suede shoes and sing along. These CDs expand childrens musical horizons, develop critical listening skills, and provide a wonderful opportunity for adult and child to share musical and learning experiences together. Appropriate for all ages (and highly informative for adults as well!).Also available in Spanish.
