"The Purple Land" is a novel set in 19th century Uruguay. The full title is "THE PURPLE LAND Being the Narrative of One Richard Lamb's Adventures in the Banda Oriental, in South America, as told by Himself", but (according to Hudson's forward) was first published in 1885 under the title "The Purple Land that England Lost". The book is illustrated by Keith Henderson with wood-block style prints of the characters in the story and animals in the region where the story is set. This is a Cameo Classics edition. The covers of Cameo Classics feature a cameo of Johann Gutenberg - this one is from a medal owned by William Edwin Rudge.
