SURGE

(Midwest Artists Feb. 27, 2019)
Twelve seconds. That’s the exact amount of time Kenison has had her neutralizer gun trained on the forehead of the man she surged back in time to kill.
One second was all she needed to pull the trigger.
Eleven seconds later, she still hadn’t shot him. How could she? He knew her name. He knew she was a surger from a place called the Civilization. And even more disturbing, he knew the people who sent her there–the ones she trusts to protect her–are about to have her killed.
The world beyond 2019 is bleak. In fact, it downright sucks. There are no flying cars. No robot sidekicks. No family vacations on the moon. But there are surgers–people born with the ability to time travel. Surgers are the hope for the future. The ones sent back in time to strategically change the course of our bleak and dying world in hopes of creating a better future. At least that’s what seventeen-year-old Kension was trained to believe. And she does, right until the exact moment she finds herself in the year 2014, standing face to face with a man she can’t bring herself to kill. A man she let get inside her head. A man who only needed twelve seconds to convince her that, the only way to survive, is to break the number one rule of surging. Go rogue.
Twelve seconds. That’s all it took for one decision to change the course of history.
