The Love Curse

language (Kathryn Ardell Nov. 21, 2013)
A family curse hangs over the head of seventeen-year-old Rainelle Murray. Any man she marries will die. What happened to living happily ever after? It might be thrilling for a man to be willing to give up his life for her, but she doesn’t want him to actually die!

When a late-night call summons them to the funeral of her great-grandmother, the old woman’s attorney explains that the curse was cast by a nineteenth century witch jilted at the altar in favor of Rainelle’s ancestor. For generations, every woman in her family has been widowed shortly after giving birth to her first child, always a daughter. Attempts to remarry always lead to the death of the woman’s fiancé before the marriage takes place.

Rainelle discovers she has inherited Owl Cottage, the family’s ancestral home and all its secrets. A cryptic letter suggests her great-grandmother may have discovered a way to end the curse and sends her scrambling for clues. When Sam, the intriguing son of her mother’s childhood sweetheart, reveals that the elderly woman recently purchased a very old book from a dark stranger, they conclude the book must hold the secret for destroying the curse. So where did her great-grandmother hide it and why didn’t she use it to break the curse?

The stakes rise when a witch shows up to reclaim the book, and Rainelle’s mother, refusing to believe the curse is real, becomes engaged to Sam’s father, Charlie. Can Rainelle and Sam evade the witch, find the book, and break the spell before the curse causes Charlie to meet an untimely demise?

Roald Dahl’s THE WITCHES meets Alice Hoffman’s PRACTICAL MAGIC in THE LOVE CURSE, a 79,500 word young adult novel.
