The story concerns a mysterious death of a young man, Lord Montbarry, honeymooning in Venice. His family becomes suspicious and decides to travel to Italy to investigate, but upon their stay, many begin to experience paranormal events for themselves. Like many of Collins novels the story is very character driven. It is noted as one of his best mystery novels.
