A long time ago, one in every one hundred thousand children born from a human was a mermaid. But now mermaids are the only ones that can survive in this flooded world. Every human child born from a mermaid is killed the moment they take their first breath. However, one in every one hundred thousand is spared. You know the original story—Cressa-la does everything she can to save the world she knows, and her last thought was: What if I had never touched the water? Well, what if she hand’t? How much different would her story have been—and would it have the same outcome? Gifted and spared, only the scales don’t appear in this version of Cressa-la’s story. And yet the darkness still finds her and becomes aware of what she is.
