A large war-weary shaggy superior tabby. At first, Smudge does his best to ignore the lively bundle of energy who wants to intrude into his settled life. Smudge spends most of his time wandering the woods that adjoin their home. A solitary sad grumpy figure searching for Petra the beautiful elegant Russian blue who lived next door but has now disappeared. He has no idea where she is or how to find her. He has a network of friends in the forest who love and respect him trying to track down Petra to no avail.Smudge sees the hurt he is causing Jennie so makes small overtures little knowing that through Jennie he will be reunited with Petra and enjoy many more adventures.
