Wendy Chapman, a 9 year old girl, has spent her whole life in and out of foster homes. Her parents abandoned her as a baby and she has no idea why or where they are. After living in four different houses in four years, she’s given up hope of ever having a permanent family. Then, one day, a lovely couple, John and Bev, decide to take Wendy into their home, which already has SIX OTHER FOSTER KIDS! So Wendy goes from having no brothers and sisters to a lot of them!It’s not long after moving to her new house that Wendy starts a diary because she is having trouble adjusting to her new environment. She is painfully shy and writing down all her thoughts and dreams makes her feel less alone in the world.
