My name is Ross Taylor. I was a fairly average student at school throught Primary and the first years of secondary. I come from relatively humble beginnings and there were never many books around my house. I loved reading so I would attend the local library clear-out sales every year. One year I bought an old-fashioned Maths textbook. It was nothing spectacular. Just page after page of sums. I found completing the book to be extremely therapeutic. More importantly my Maths achievement skyrocketed. At Higher Maths (the Scottish equivalent of A-Levels), I scored 100% in my exam. I received a letter from the school and Exam board to make me aware that this was an extremely rare achievement!
This Maths success has served me well in my career. I've progressed through the ladder and now earn well into the 6-figures every year.
I listen a lot to people saying that "Repetition doesn't work", but I am the proof that this is not the case. Practice does indeed make perfect! I truly believe that to be the case.
This book is aimed at kids ages 4 to 6. Primary 1 or Primary 2 kids who are just beginning addition. All the sums in this book are adding a single digit to a single digit. No answer is greater than 20. On each page you will find 2 "number lines". Number lines help young kids with their addition. Show the children how to start on the number line at the first number of the sum and then count on the second number of steps to find the answer. Really simple, and really easy to pick up. You will find that the kids will move on from using the number lines after a few pages.
By the end of this book each child will have completed 600 simple addition sums and having done so will have built up an excellent foundation in basic arithmetic. Great supplementary exercise to elementary school work.
