Harley Earle had to make a very hard decision concerning how to spend his free time until school started back. He enjoyed being around girls, especially Rachel, but his desire to participate in more adventurous things won out. Mr. Chris's cave was an adventure just waiting to happen. It was as if there was a loud voice calling, "explore me" "explore me." The rock crusher that had filled with water over the years held secrets lying below its surface. People needed to know what was down there. There was a grave located in the Presbyterian Cemetery that was rumored to hold valuable treasures. They must be found. Harley listened to the men at the barbershop tell stories about "The Mt. Hope Coal Mine" that was located on the side of the Penitentiary Mountain. Sheriff Franklin and Deputy Dalton needed all the help they could get to capture that crook, Dufus McGee and his gang. Harley Earle was going to have a busy summer.
