Fleeing from myself: Ian & Joy Lucas
(Gary Turner Dec. 23, 2015)
Ian Lucas graduated from equestrian show-rider to movie stuntman and bit-player with Errol Flynn in the "Dark Avenger" ("Black Prince") film which was the last historical action film of Errol Flynn. Between circuses and films Ian had seasonal work in industries that no longer survive (selling ice-cream and kerosene). He married Joy 20 years after first meeting when he had been living with her mother, and in the interim she had married on the re-bound from that first meeting, and gone to Australia. Settled in Littlehampton, the couple established businesses from 1970s to 1990s while still conducting seasonal ventures including 10 years of pony-ride concessions on the beach.
