Egils Saga belongs to a group of sagas known as the Islendinga sogur, the sagas of Icelanders. It tells the story of a powerful tenth-century Norwegian family who emigrated to Iceland. It was written down in its present form in the thirteenth century, and the manuscripts in which it survives are mostly fourteenth-century.
