He took a deep breath and pulled out the last wire. Immediately, the egg shot out a beam of light, and Charlie dropped it back onto the base. They all leapt up and ran behind the sofa for safety. The egg started to shake and bounce. It bounced itself out of the base, but it didn't fall to the floor. The four of them let out a collective gasp as the egg floated above the table. The egg hovered there for what seemed like forever, when the glass shell shattered. Everyone ducked, but the pieces dissolved before getting anywhere near them. The egg began spinning rapidly, and then fell back into the base with a loud crack. The beam of light vanished. Everything was quiet. Charlie looked at Reese and she shrugged. Herb finally got out from behind the couch to investigate, when a tiny green fist punched through the side of the egg. The fist unfurled and the fingers wiggled. It felt around the base, as if looking for something. Then, a low voice spoke.
