Pick-A-Picture - Barnyard Animals: An Interactive Learning Adventure
language
(Sondolify Press Dec. 29, 2015)
, 2 edition
This interactive game-type book explores identifying barnyard animals and facts associated with those animals by immersing the child in a simple story about Farmer Daisy and her farmyard dog, Chestnut. The child accompanies the farmer on her daily chore of feeding the animals in the morning, and herself. Through a question-and-answer picture format, the child “helps” Farmer Daisy give each type of food to the correct animal. A short challenge page is located at the end of the book.
Supports common core standards by:
- encouraging the child to ask and answer questions in order to seek help, get information, or clarify something that is not understood;
- helping child describe familiar people, places, and things and, with prompting and support, provide additional detail;
- teaching child to follow words from left to right, top to bottom, and page by page;
- recognizing that spoken words are represented in written language by specific sequences of letters;
- understanding that words are separated by spaces in print;
- and by developing strong comprehension and vocabulary skills by listening to and reading stories and informational texts about animals, people, places, etc.
