Through the Gale

"There's an old saying that 'you reap what you sow'; but when it come to farming, it's not just what you put into the ground, it's how you tend to it while it grows."That was something Amy's grandfather had said when she was little. But after his death in a tornado, Amy faces new challenges when she and her family move in with their grandmother in a tiny farm town on the edge of nowhere.While adjusting to her new life, Amy meets Maria, a girl her own age with no mother and an abusive alcoholic father everyone knows as "mean ol' Mister James." Amy and Maria become fast friends until the next spring, when a drunken rampage from Mister James sends the girls into the barn during a severe storm that turns into a twister. When the air finally clears, Maria is gone.Gradually, Amy settles back into routine while Mister James tries to cope in his own violent ways. Despite the warnings of her friends and family, Amy can't let go of the strange sense of duty to help Mister James. As the winds of change continue to rock her family, Amy tries to do whatever she can for the man deemed responsible for her friend's death, while he now has to live with himself.
