The fun and fanciful traveler Samjogo meets a down-on-his-luck magistrate, whose realm is being plagued by a mysterious evil. Fortunately, Samjogo specializes in vanquishing mysterious evil (at least when it pays well), so accepts the magistrate's offer to save the beleaguered land. In-between hunting for the source of the realm's suffering, Samjogo regales the magistrate with stories of his many adventures. But little does Samjogo realize, there is another game afoot, and he is in greater danger than he could have guessed.
Set in the same magical world of Korean folklore as "Young-hee & the Pullocho," this short story is a prequel to that novel, focusing on Young-hee's traveling companion Samjogo.
